The local community and visitors will have the opportunity to meet with the interviewers and interviewees at an evening event at Wellfleet's Adult Community Center. An edited version of the interviews will be shown and food from the interviewees native homes will be shared.

Opening Reception - Monthly Exhibit at Great Pond Gallery: Donald Beal

Donald Beal - Paintings
Part of a monthly changing exhibit showcasing local artists.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My paintings are made from either direct observation or are studio inventions. Both ways of working are informed by years of looking at the art from the distant past to the work done by my contemporaries. The landscape is most of what I do when working from life. Painting from life forces me to be truly awake, and to look deeply at what I’m confronted with. It can be an overwhelming experience, and I find the only way forward is to trust my impulses and instincts to find some way to articulate a deeper understanding of what it means to be there. If all goes well the painting finds a form that expresses something that goes beyond expected and easy answers, and exposes deeper and more difficult truths. Working from life is both exhilarating and exhausting and is the most demanding work I’ve ever done. It’s the foundation everything else I do stands on.
The invented paintings made in my studio begin as open mark making and smears of color that attempt nothing more than to establish a spatial relationship with one another. As these relationships build, suggestions of imagery inevitably emerge. If these images feel vital I try to foster them, if not, they get knocked down until something new takes shape. Working this way I can build paintings that are found through an abstract language from which the unbeckoned and mythologized memories of figures, animals, landscapes, florals are created unforced, and unmannered.
Working this way I’m able to find something unexpected, and avoid the self conscious and literal responses that working from a fixed idea can lead to.
ARTIST’S BIO
Donald Beal was born in Syracuse, New York and grew up in Westford, Massachusetts. ARTIST’S POSTHUMOUS STATEMENT
I chose to be a photographer because I wanted to express myself in an artistic manner. Since my drawing and painting skills have not advanced beyond stick figures, it is my choice to be a photographer. Presently Street Photography and Decay - urban, suburban and rural - are my subjects of choice. But to tell you the truth, I have and shall shoot anything that is in front of me, behind me, above me, beside me and under me.
ARTIST’S BIO
Joann D. Eldridge was born on August 31, 1939, and spent her early years in the Buzzards Bay/Bourne area on Cape Cod. She often traveled with her father up and down the East Coast waterways as he was a sports fisherman. Joann loved living on Cape Cod and Blackfish Creek, being close to the ocean and beautiful beaches and enjoying spectacular sunsets.
She graduated from Worcester State College in 1970 with a B.A. in English. She had a love of literature and received her M.A. in English from Assumption College in 1972. She spent 30 years at Doherty High School in Worcester where she taught Advanced Placement English, coordinated drama shows, and was advisor to the Literary Magazine. Several of her former students remained in touch over the years and often commented on how influential she was in their lives.

ARTIST STATEMENT: DIANE ROBERTSON
As a child, I bought my first camera, a Kodak “Baby Brownie” for $3.00. In my early teens I bought a Kodak flash camera with my baby sitting money.
Photography became my biggest interest, and in my sixties, I signed up for photo trips to places I had only seen in pictures. These trips were wonderful as I didn’t have to do any of the planning. I also joined a camera club and benefitted from the help of the members with greater skills than I had.
After my husband and I moved to Wellfleet on Cape Cod, I signed up for watercolor classes at the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable.
During the next few years, I had two wonderful watercolor teachers who were very different in style. I then began to paint from my own photographs, using a plastic grid overlay so I could map-out where my subjects went on the watercolor painting.
Things became easier as time passed and my choice of subject varied. Many happy memories filled my day.
Photography and painting have been equally satisfying hobbies over the years, as the subjects brought back very happy memories of people I met and the places we visited. May others find the joy that I found in my artistic endeavors.

Reception for the Artist: Marc Kundmann - Body Language

Marc Kundmann - BODY LANGUAGE
Part of a monthly changing exhibit showcasing local artists.
Great Pond Gallery at the Wellfleet Adult Community Center, 715 Old Kings Highway
Month of September, M-F: 8 am - 4 pm
Reception for the Artist: Sunday, September 8 - 3:00 - 5:00 pm
Robert Rindler: Curator, James Connors: Co-Curator & Installation
ARTIST STATEMENT:
This exhibition is a collection of works that explore the male figure with paintings that span my career. In these works, I focus on body language and the physicality of the figures —whether in contemplation or movement—to suggest a narrative and dialog between the subjects and even the viewer. I use vibrant color expressively to set a tone and incorporate scrapping, texture, and bold brushwork to bring out the fleshiness and complexity of the body while hopefully revealing a sense of inner life that goes beyond the surface. My goal is to invite viewers to find their own connection and interpretation of the scene and the interplay between the figures.
ARTIST’S BIO:
Marc Kundmann has spent over 25 years as a painter residing and working in the captivating landscapes of Cape Cod. He has maintained his Provincetown West End studio for over a decade. More recently, part-time residency in Mérida, Mexico has further broadened his palette and subjects, including the addition of portraiture to his repertoire.
Kundmann works in encaustic, oil and acrylic media, allowing him to build and remove layers of color, transparency, and pigments, and to use texture expressively. His hope is that the resulting layers create not only intriguing and beautiful surfaces, but also give emotional life to the subjects and hint at the mystery inside.
His most recent work explores our physical interaction with the exceptional environment of the Cape: the long walks through the dunes, our movement through the water that surrounds us either swimming or boating, biking on the trails, and even the still moments in our special homes. It celebrates the unique rituals and rhythms of life here and the beautiful people of all kinds that make up the fabric of our community.
Kundmann studied and workshopped with fine artists connected to the long tradition of creating on Cape Cod including Robert Henry, a student of Hans Hofmann, and Fine Arts Work Center Fellows Jim Peters, Bert Yarborough and Richard Baker. Through them he learned to explore materials, freeing himself from the constraints of representing the real world and allowing him to work expressively, responding to color and composition allowing the painting to evolve into its final form.
He is represented by the Addison Art Gallery and his exhibitions include several one-man shows there. Teaching Traditions (2013) and Art of the Garden (2012) at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and the two-person show Timeless: Explorations in Wax-based Media at the Cape Cod Museum of Art.
His work is featured in Deborah Forman’s comprehensive book, Contemporary Cape Cod Artists: Images of Land and Sea (Schiffer Publishing, 2013).
Kundmann has taught several workshops through the Museum School at PAAM.

PorchFest 2024
Wellfleet PorchFest 2024
Free open-air music festival taking place on the porches in the Historic and Cultural District of Wellfleet.
Porchfest is looking forward to another day of live music on the porches and front yards of beautiful downtown Wellfleet!
PorchFest hosts artists across all genres including: classical, Celtic, bluegrass, rock, jazz, and more.
The festival runs from 1:30 to 5:00 in two sets, with a half-hour break between sets.
Wellfleet PorchFest was founded by a group of local musicians and friends following the example of the original Porchfest introduced in Ithaca, New York in 2007. From its beginnings in Ithaca, the Porchfest concept has spread to cities and towns across the country and Canada, including three others in Massachusetts: Somerville, Jamaica Plain, and Sandwich.

Community Bulletin Board
Provincetown Art Association & Museum
Collective Line Drawing (CLD) is a second iteration of the LCC-funded Community Bulletin Board, a public interactive art project at PAAM. For the second iteration, we recycled and reused the same materials; pushpins and a large cork bulletin board, to start a new line drawing, made collectively by the participants pinning one pushpin at a time to connect dots (pins) into a continuous line, resulting in a large free-flowing colorful drawing. Participants can start a new line pattern that connects to another existing dot/pin to create a continuous flow of intertwining lines.
One pushpin pinned on the bulletin board initiated the start of the project in March, and now the drawing is massive! This is a collective art project to work together and make connections literally by pinning dot to dot, and socially by interacting with one another to create stronger bonds with individuals in our community while making art.
