  • What kind of projects do you fund?

    All projects in arts, sciences, and humanities as long as there is a benefit to the community of Wellfleet. Full criteria for funding eligibility can be found HERE.

  • Where does the funding come from?

    Grants are distributed from funding from the Mass Cultural Council, the town of Wellfleet, and individual donations.

  • How do I apply for a grant?

    Please take a look at the tabs under “Grants” in the main menu. Here you will find helpful links and instructions.

  • Can I apply for more than one grant?

    Only one application from each group or individual will be considered. Please combine multi program/project requests under one application.

  • Can you help me find a venue or performance space?

    Securing a venue and any permits (if applicable) is your sole responsibility. We have provided a list of some of the performance spaces that we are aware of in “Helpful Links” in the Grants tab, but don’t limit your options to our known list. Cafes, galleries, houses of worship, bookstores, restaurants, and other spaces (public and private) may be open to hosting your event.

  • Do grants from the Cultural Council require matching funds?

    No, these grants do not require a one-to-one match. However, since these awards are generally small, the Council does look at your other sources of funding when considering your proposal to assure the project’s viability.

  • Can I charge for my event?

    Yes. As long as it’s a public event and it’s declared upfront in your application. However, the Council does consider accessibility for the community when reviewing funding.

  • How do I manage my grant?

    Information on managing your grant can be found in the tabs under “Grants” in the main menu. If you don’t find the answer here, reach out to your assigned grant liaison from the Cultural Committee.

  • What if things change?

    If you anticipate changes to your project or you need an extension, please get in touch with your Cultural Council Liaison as soon as possible. There are identical instructions on this process in the Grant tabs “Managing Your Grant” and “Reimbursement Process.

  • How do I receive my grant funding?

    The Council has moved to a direct granting system. After you have signed the Grant Agreemnet Form, funding will be sent to you by the town of Wellfleet. A grant report must be submitted no later than 2 weeks after the completion of the project.

  • What is the granting criteria and time line?

    Criteria for all Mass Local Cultural Program Grants can be found HERE. Additional criteria for Wellfleet grants are listed under “Applying for a Grant” in the Grants tab. Grant applications for FY 2024 will open on September 1, 2023, with a deadline of October 17, 2023. Sign up for alerts HERE to get notifications.

  • How do I become a member of the Wellfleet Culural Council?

    Information and an application for all Wellfleet boards and committees can be found HERE. Appointment to the Cultural Council is done by the Wellfleet Select Board.
