Constantine Manos

Constantine Manos has created unique and complex images that freeze surprisingly disparate elements together in a single fascinating frame.

Photographing in crowded public places and many unique locales in the United States, Manos presents a kaleidoscope of the visual vocabulary and candid moments within our American culture. Each image has it's own message and elicits it's own set of responses from the viewer and provides a rich and dynamic situation for capturing the unexpected.

Manos has transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary and the real into the surreal in this truly beautiful and colorful collection of photographs exhibited here at The Wellfleet Adult Community Center.

Costa Manos has worked as a professional photographer for many years. His career began at age 19, when he was hired as the official photographer for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, but started at The Symphony’s summer home at Tanglewood. His photographs of the orchestra culminated in 1961 with his first published work, “Portrait of a Symphony”

Manos graduated from the University of South Carolina. His career lead him to important photographer positions for various magazines in New York City, Boston and his Greek homeland, where he once again realized a collection of photos for “A Greek Portfolio”.He then also created the photographs for his book “Bostonians” in honor of the city’s 200th anniversary.

In 1995 “American Color" was published, containing Manos' photographs of American people and places. He was awarded the Leica Medal of excellence for this comprehensive collection of extraordinary images. He is a distinguished member of the international photojournalist collective, Magnum.

His celebrated work is in the collections of The Library of Congress in D.C., New York’s Museum of Modern Art,the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Boston Athenaeum,Biblioteque National in Paris, The Benaki Museum, Athens, The Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and many other international venues.

Constantine Manos currently lives full-time on Outer Cape Cod where he continues to take photographs with his favorite Leica cameras.
